Most outdoor-savy folks are aware of large animals when walking through bear country. But you wouldn’t expect one to follow you. Photographer Joshua Wade Covill captured this young grizzly stalking a hiker, most likely out of curiosity. “We watched this young Grizzly Bear walk right up behind this guy and he HAD NO IDEA (sic),” he wrote on Facebook. “When he turned around, they both jumped backwards and the bear ran off downhill! The guy finished his hike, but I’m guessing he needed some clean shorts!”
Grizzlies are common in the Glacier area and Northwest Montana in general. In June of 2016, mountain biker Brad Treat was killed by a bear just outside Glacier National Park when he collided with the animal at an estimated 20-25 miles per hour.
