If you’ve ever taken part in the longstanding tradition of firing back a shot-ski with friends, you know it’s very easy for at least one person to end up with the liquor of choice any place but in their belly. And that’s just on your typical old ski with four or five shot glasses hammered into the deck. But what about getting 1,400 friends together and 500-plus skis to throw back a couple ounces of vodka or whiskey each?
A normal shot-ski, this was not.
The 1,400 (1,401, to be exact) people in Breckenridge, Colorado who just took this task on did so as part of an ongoing rivalry with Park City, Utah, where the world record for longest shot-ski has been passed back and forth for years now. The new (unofficial) record was coordinated by Breckenridge Brewery, which served up the choice of vodka or whiskey to each participant on Main Street. The event also managed to raise more than $30,000 for the local Breckenridge Mountain Rotary, according to a post on social media.
The 503 skis used for the shot covered 2,447 feet down Main Street in Breckenridge and edged out the mark 1,385 Park City locals had just set only a few months earlier. It’s the twelfth time the Colorado town has snatched the record, which means it probably won’t be the last time Park City turns around and attempts to one-up its friendly rivals.
Hey, it’s worth a shot.
