The Inertia

“In combat, you wait and you wait, and then you engage in an intense fire fight, fighting for your life. But in surfing, you wait and you wait, and then you engage in a pure, natural, adrenaline rush.”

Carly Rogers is an occupational therapist. That means she uses activities or occupations to help people heal by promoting independence and developing daily skills. While OT’s use a variety of activities to achieve this goal, Rogers uses one that we can all appreciate: surfing. As a lifeguard and surfer, Rogers first used surfing to empower inner-city kids. During her time earning her masters at USC, she began to use surfing for therapy, which led her to help develop surf therapy for Wounded Warriors through the Jimmy Miller Foundation. Watch below to learn more about Rogers’ experience and how she has been able to use surfing for healing.
