The Inertia

Let’s face it, Twitter is a dead bird, Facebook has become the place where your grandmother can check up on your every move, and Instagram is more a modeling agency than a place to interact with pros and share your latest feats with the action sports community. Ever wish you could get the juicy meat of the your favorite pastime via social media without the irritating, often irrelevant content? Well, you can. And now there’s a competitive twist to it.

Meet Shrick, a brand new mobile app that’s exclusively geared toward action sports. The app allows riders and fans to share their tricks and score points for their posts. The purpose of the point system is to make up a user’s rating, which defines their place in the Shrick’s community leaderboard. So wherever you are, Shrick provides riders with the ability to be part of a unique action sports community, allowing them to stay competitive.

The app has an exceptionally clean, user-friendly interface, similar to that of Instagram. It features an extensive database of tricks for more than 20 different action sports. Is your trick not listed? Simply suggest your trick to be added to the database. Upload a video or picture, add filters if you fancy, and add captions and hashtags. Heck, put the most critical part of your clip in slowmo, if you’d like. There’s even a “fail” section, which features all the best wipeouts in the community. Who doesn’t like a good fail? It’s genius. After posting, all you have to do is sit back, relax, and earn points as the whole community watches you shred.

In addition to its multi-sport composition, perhaps the most unique features on Shrick are the trick-specific and progressive properties users can benefit from. Can’t seem to stomp a certain trick? Search and browse the community for your trick, watch it in slowmo, and dissect every minute detail until you stomp that damn thing on your own.

The truth is, if you’re not progressing, you’re doing it wrong. Progression, however, comes in many different forms. It’s not limited to learning new tricks and going bigger. Progression can be simply improving your technique and making your tricks look smooth and effortless. And if there’s an app that will facilitate that progression, why the hell not, right?
