This is the Ridge Wallet, which after testing, is more akin to Hermione Granger’s bottomless beaded handbag made famous in the Harry Potter franchise in my estimation. It can hold almost anything and everything despite its lack of bulk.
On a casual first glance, it certainly looked nice with its burnt titanium casing and matte black money clip, but I was skeptical. As I pulled my beat-up leather double-fold out of my pocket, a laugh escaped me. There was no way this little rectangle could fit all of the cards currently bursting my Costanza leather double-fold at the seams.
I was so wrong. Card after card disappeared into its depths. My fat stack of bills (mostly ones) neatly folded, were held in place by the sturdy clip. I was astonished. My unruly leather wallet transformed into a sleek, credit card-sized piece of metal with a comfortable weight to it. To retrieve a card, I simply used the thumb cutout on the side of the wallet to push the cards out. My most used cards – credit card and ID (because I have a young face but enjoy beer) – sat on either side of the stack for easy access. If I needed anything further inside, I could just fan out the collection of gift cards, insurance cards, and membership cards (I don’t just go to Costco, I’m a member, okay?) and choose what I needed. No more searching through four or five different card slots to find your insurance card or dumping your entire wallet out on the counter at Starbucks.
The Ridge, founded in 2013 by the father-son team of Daniel and Paul Kane, is dedicated to maximizing by minimizing. And maximize by minimizing it has done, maximizing my outdoor experience by minimizing my what-if-everything-falls-out-of-my-wallet anxiety. That serious anxiety has been completely eliminated by the secure weight of the tightly-strapped little brick of cards that, along with my phone, is one of my most carried possessions. I feel comfortable throwing this little guy into a backpack with zero worries about it spewing its contents across the bottom of the bag as my leather wallet, on occasion, used to. And if there should ever come a time when I would worry about such a thing, say, if the elastic started to stretch out or the screws loosen, Ridge has a lifetime warranty for assurance.
The next steps in maximizing my Ridge Wallet experience? Buying the Ridge Bottle Opener and finding a wax comb that fits.
