When camping with your significant other, it’s nice to have a double-wide sleeping bag you can both snuggle up into. Ever tried squeezing two people into a single bag? Been there, done that and don’t want to go back. It’s a chilly, squishy night and while it may sound romantic, it’s anything but. These days, there are lots of double sleeping bags on the market allowing you to have your cake and eat it too. Or in this case, you can sleep alongside your snuggle buddy without sacrificing comfort.
The Nemo Jazz Double Sleeping Bag
The idea behind the Nemo Jazz is that it’s like bringing your bed with you, for the ultimate comfortable camping experience. The sleeping bag includes a built-in, soft bedsheet that is removable and washable. The bag also sports an integrated sleeve to keep your sleeping pad in place as well as a pillow pocket to secure your pillow. On top is an insulated, featherbed-style quilted layer for warmth and comfort.
Technical Features
The Jazz features an overfilled quilt and featherbed-style bottom that are insulated with 100 percent recycled Stratofiber synthetic insulation. The 50D DWR-treated shell, taffeta liner, and removable sheet are also all made from 100 percent recycled polyester fabrics.
The sleeping bag sports a symmetrical design, with double zipper pulls on both sides for individualized temperature control. The tapered geometry design cuts down on excess volume, while still providing plenty of space and warmth. The Blanket Fold draft collar helps further regulate temperature and the integrated pad sleeves ensure sleeping pads stay securely in place all night long. Everything packs down into the included grab-and-go oversized duffel.
The Ground Test
I wasn’t sure how a tandem sleeping experience would go but to be honest, I kind of loved it. The Jazz is super luxurious and comfortable and pairs perfectly with Nemo’s Roamer sleeping pads. The sleeping pads slip easily into the built-in sleeve and stay in place all night long. If you’ve ever spent the night sleeping on a slope and slipping off your pad all night, you know how incredible of a feature this is. Also, the Roamer pads are insanely thick and comfortable.
Two people in one bag sounded like a potentially tight fit, but my boyfriend and I found that we each had plenty of space in the Jazz. Plus, with zippers on both sides, I could let some air in since I run warm and he could keep his zipped to his chin. I liked the idea behind the sheet and while it was comfortable, I found that it tended to bunch up throughout the night. Luckily, it’s removable, so I’ll probably save it for summer camping trips and keep it tucked away until then.
The sleeping bag is super comfy and warm and after our camping trip, everything easily rolled up into the duffel to be saved until next time.
Concluding Thoughts
If you camp with your spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, kids, or even your dogs, the Nemo Jazz is a solid option. It’s warm, comfortable, has plenty of space, and has extra features like a built-in sheet and a built-in sleeping pad sleeve. It has everything I could want in a sleeping bag and then some. If only they made a backpacking option.
