Let’s face it: the GoPro HERO4 is legit. Adding the screen on the back? Clutch! Faster processor and hardware? Love it! Shooting in 4K? Okay, maybe that’s a little overkill.
Long story short, GoPro has once again established itself as the king of POV cameras, and we can’t get enough of them in surf culture. Personally, I’m not too wild about the view from the front of the board showing off Andre the Giant sized feet, but surfers around the world are getting some amazing shots with their GoPros. When I head to the North Shore in March, you know I’ll be rocking mine. Whether my GoPro is with me on a trip, tagging along for a day adventure, or just chilling at home, a case is an absolute essential. Here are my top three choices of GoPro cases:
1. GOcase
My H4 case goes wherever I go. The HERO3 and 4 are the same size, so my camera and items all fit nicely in one place. The carabineer on the outside makes it easy to latch onto my bag, and the hard outside keeps everything intact when I drop it, which is just unavoidable. The handle on the outside is great, and the side opposite the GoPro is perfect for an iPad or other items. I absolutely love this case – I’ve been repping GOcase for a year now and plan to keep doing so down the road.
2. Incase
I had the pleasure of taking a Dual Kit for a test drive, and it was great. It holds two cameras and housings along with some other items like memory cards. Everything is packed in nice and tight, so there wasn’t any shuffling around once I opened the case back up after transporting it. It feels really sturdy, and you know your GoPro will be at home inside. Plus, Kelly Slater is a SYNDCT, so you know it’s good.
3. Pelican
When it comes to cases, there’s no going wrong with a Pelican. I’ve always used these for my DSLRs, but Pelican made a splash onto the POV camera scene with its 1200GPC1 case. If you’re doing intense travel, need to check your camera, or require a lock, you can’t go wrong with Pelican. The sturdy, waterproof case is always a sure bet. Of course, they’re a little bulkier and heavier, so keep that in mind.
So, there you have it. My top three recommended homes for your GoPro. For many of us, our cameras are at the top of our packing list. Keep your gear safe with a good case. What’s your go-to case?
