10 Great Sunscreens to Get You Ready and Equipped for Summer

Surfer or not, a solid sunscreen is a must-have for maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle. Staying out of the sun is simply not an option, and neither is having wrinkled leather skin by the time you’re 35. With the variety of lotions, sprays, sticks, and other applicators out there, finding what works best can be confusing. Fortunately, I’ve made it simple. From lowest to highest SPF levels, here are 10 awesome sunscreens that will keep you stoked and protected all summer long:

1. YeaBah: Organic Facestick (SPF 25)

At $15.00 each, the YeaBah has great UVA and UVB protection. It’s water and sweat resistant, organic, fragrance-free, non-irritating, non-greasy, and comes in a variety of different colors. The facestick, however, is difficult to apply to large areas.

2. Raw Elements: Eco Formula Lotion 3 oz. (SPF 30)

At $18.99, this SPF 30, water and sweat-resistant sunscreen is certified organic, GMO-free, non-irritating, and hypo-allergenic. It’s also rich in antioxidants, biodegradable, reef safe, and it moisturizes your skin while protecting it. The thick lotion can be difficult to apply to large areas, slightly greasy, and a tad more pricey than similar alternatives.

3. All Terrain: AquaSport  3 oz. (SPF 30)

AquaSport offers great protection to those looking to do a bit of sweating.

At $15.99, AquaSport lotion sunscreen offers all the benefits of the Raw Elements sunscreen, but it’s less greasy and a few bucks cheaper. Great for those breaking a sweat in the sun.

4. Surface: Wetskin Spray 5 oz. (SPF 30)

Surface. Great name and great product at a reasonable price.

At the reasonable price of $15.00, this spray application is water and sweat resistant and can be applied to wet or dry skin. It’s non-greasy, easily applied to the face and entire body, offering more bang for your buck. However, the spray is scented and not organic.

5. All Good Sunscreen 3 oz. (SPF 33)

All Good zink’s got you covered this summer.

At $15.99, All Good zink sunscreen offers a bit more protection for the regions where the sun is out with a vengeance. It’s not very water and sweat resistant and it leaves a light white residue, but it makes up in all the natural, organic materials. Plus, it’s great for your skin. Definitely a wise choice.

6. Badger: Sport Sunscreen Cream 2.9 oz. (SPF 35)

Non-everything bad, biodegradable, and thick to protect.

At $15.99, Badger is water and sweat resistant, certified organic, fragrance-free, GMO-free, gluten-free, PABA-free, paraben-free, vegan, biodegradable, reef safe, non-nano, non-irritating, and non-greasy. Ugh. It is, however, a little on the thick side, so applying to large areas might be a bit difficult.

7. Headhunter: Facestick (SPF 45)

Headhunter: a staple of surf sunscreen.

At $15.00, Headhunter is great for long surfs in the blistering sun. It’s highly water and sweat resistant, easy to applied to the face, non-greasy, and comes in a variety of different colors. Headhunter is not organic and may be difficult to apply to larger areas. Nonetheless, it’s been protecting surfers all around the world for years.

8. Sun Bum: Signature sunscreen 3 oz. (SPF 50)

Sun Bum offers great protection and is non-greasy. Packaging looks great too, right?

At $17.99, Sun Bum offers strong UVA and UVB protection. It’s water and sweat resistant, hypo-allergenic, fragrance-free, non-greasy, and gentle and easy to apply to the face and entire boy. The only downside is that Sun Bum is non-organic.

9. Vertra: The Shelter Sun Resistant Foundation Face Stick (SPF 50)

I’d like to see the sun get past Vertra face stick.

At $23.00, the SPF 50 Vertra face stick offers great protection when you’re having multiple surfs in a day. It’s highly water and sweat resistant, easily applied to the face, non-greasy, and comes in a variety of different colors. However, it’s non-organic, difficult to apply to large areas, and a bit more pricey than similar alternatives. Still, I’d like to see the sun get past Vertra face stick.
