Most people associate blizzards with snow, hot chocolate, and sitting by a warm fire. I, however, was not going to sit inside. All I could think about was going outside to find the silver lining in this ferocious storm and seeing what Mother Nature had to offer.
After waking up early on Sunday morning to dig out the driveway, I hopped into my Jeep and headed down to the beach. The waves were pounding the shoreline. There was froth, spray, and chilly barrels as far as the eye could see. I grabbed my camera and bag and trudged through the snow, taking shot after shot. Although I didn’t see any surfers while I was shooting, I knew up and down the coast of Long Island there were plenty of people enjoying the fruits of Jonas (see that here).
Growing up on Long Island I’ve spent the majority of my time at the beach. As an adult, I still find it one of the most tranquil places to visit. Whether the ocean is calm and glassy or churning out monstrous waves (in Jonas’ case), I know I will always be there. Whether it’s creating dancing star trails, picturesque scenes of sun-kissed clouds, exposing the raw power of the ocean (as well as its bounty), or portraits of family and friends, I focus on creating some type of connection and lasting impression with my audience. I am grateful to have such a diverse, unique, and gratifying environment surrounding me.
