The Inertia

In a miraculous feat of misfortune, a Colorado woman has defied all odds of plausible probability. While vacationing with her family in Florida, 28-year-old Jill Kruse was just minutes into her first-ever dip in the ocean when she was attacked by a shark.

“I was excited but also nervous at the same time, almost like I knew something was going to go wrong,” Kruse told Fox News Denver.

After only ten minutes of wading in the waters of Cocoa Beach, Kruse felt a sharp pain on her leg. Somehow she managed to unhinge the beast’s jaw from her body, but the damage was already done; her leg was in bad shape.

“I tried to walk back because I saw the pool of blood and knew I needed to get out of there, but I couldn’t stand,” she said.

So she screamed for help and other beachgoers were able to drag her to shore. Although safe and secure on the sand, the real fear kicked in when she got a glimpse of the damage.

“My calf was ripped away from my bone so the muscle was hanging there. There was a big gash. Basically my muscle was hanging from my leg,” she said.

Luckily the leg didn’t have to be amputated. And Kruse is now on her way to a full recovery. But how about that for a first time experience with the ocean? You’d think this mountain girl would never return, instead opting for a quiet life of landlocked solitude. Think again.

“I think I will probably go back in the water, but it will be a while. What are the chances of being bit twice, right?”
