As the feeding frenzy revved up and started moving towards shore, two young kids in a raft made it to the sand just in time. Blake Whitlow, the father of the children, was there to film the whole event, which appears to be a shiver of nearly one hundred sharks vigorously attacking a school of fish.
The amazing footage comes from Panama City, Florida over the weekend where Blake and his wife Tyra were enjoying a beach day with the kids. But as the clip shows, the pleasant day on the water soon turned to a frantic rush of shock and awe. At the start of the video, you can hear the kids whimpering as they make their way to safety.
“My reaction was kind of calm. I thought it was kind of neat — at first I thought it was porpoises,” Whitlow told WHNT News 19. “Then, after we figured out they were sharks, my wife quickly tried to get the kids out of the raft, on to the beach.”
Towards the 1:30 mark of the three-and-a-half minute video, the frenzy really starts to get crazy. The school of sharks, which Whitlow said were about three to five feet long, came within inches deep of water. The fish being attacked start flying in the air and one shark nearly beaches. Whitlow said: “The water looked like it was boiling.”
The whole feeding frenzy lasted about an hour providing an incredible spectacle for the people on the shore. We’re just glad the Whitlow children were able to get out of there in the knick of time.
