Earlier this month, a veritable who’s who of climate activists, politicians, celebrities and influencers gathered in San Francisco for the Global Climate Action Summit. Their goal? To “take ambition to the next level,” by recognizing global achievements to curb the effects of climate change while also charting the course for the future.
If there were a single speech from that event that stole the show, though, it was Harrison Ford’s impassioned call to arms. “Stop giving power to people who don’t believe in science, or worse than that pretend they don’t believe in science for their own self-interest,” said Ford as the crowd erupted in applause. “They know who they are. We know who they are,” he went on.
The speech is a swift kick in the pants if ever there were one, and a reminder to get off the couch, roll up our sleeves and get to work.
Because as Ford says, “The future of our humanity is at stake.”
