KCTV5

Heavy rains across Los Angeles on Tuesday caused flooding across the city. The typically low-lying LA river was no exception as it rose from inches to feet in under an hour. Parts of the river are known to have homeless encampments, as they can seek shelter under the heavy brush. And because of the recent drought, the squatters along the river were caught by surprise from the rapidly rising waters.

Firefighters were called out to save three people and a dog, reports CBS. Footage from KCTV5 shows the man and his pup falling from the trees and then being reeled to safety by the firefighters like a sport-fisherman and a yellowtail. But actually the best part about the video is the helicopter pilot who seems unaware that people can hear him. “Ah ahhhhhhhh,” yawns the pilot. “NICE!”

But in the big picture, Tuesday’s rain was extremely minor. Leave it up to Angelenos to make a big deal out of anything but 75 and sunny. And kudos to Buzzfeed for this on-point video making fun of LA residents when it rains. “Drive much slower and sometimes pull over if it gets too scary.”
