Jeff Max has had enough. The tech entrepreneur has been a surfer for 45 years and when he’s out in the water these days he doesn’t like what he sees: pollution, warming waters, endangered wildlife. On land, Max is a leader in the tech industry. He serves on the boards of several cloud-computing start ups following decades of executive roles in the e-commerce industry. He’s held positions from director to CEO at different companies, but this summer he’s giving his energy to protecting our coasts.
By Labor Day, Jeff will raise $100,000 to benefit Surfrider. “Oceans are the heartbeat of our planet,” he says. “They’re the canary in the coal mine of oceanic health, showing us the impact of the damage we’re doing to this most precious resource. It all starts with a single step. I’m leveraging the power of our networks and social media to have an impact, rather than mindless social validation. If everyone who sees my initiative – and reposts it to their networks – donates a dollar, we can raise a quarter of a million dollars or more. Every one of us, for less than the price of an iced decaf soy latte, can make a lasting impact where it matters.”
Jeff has created a story on the *spotfund Social Impact Network to get his story out and raise money. The method is actually pretty simple and Jeff’s story is the fastest growing campaign on *spotfund, having raised more than $5,000 in its first a few days. It’s a great story of one man with a mission harnessing the power of social media to let people who care – but wouldn’t ordinarily know how, or think to support these grassroots initiatives – support clean water and trash-free coastlines.
