The Inertia

You have nothing to complain about. These Indonesian fishermen labor on a small boat, day after day, to catch food to feed, or support, their families. It’s agonizingly strenuous work, with nothing but lines, hooks, and their bare hands to pull in their catch. This group of fishermen mostly hunts for sharks. The excerpt above is from the documentary series Overseas Legends: The Shark Fin ,and was filmed between Java and Sumatra. It follows the veteran fisherman Sawa, who’s been fishing for sharks most of his life. The hunters don’t hesitate to risk their own lives at every turn as they hook into an 18-foot tiger shark. It’s a fascinating look at real life in one of the surfing centers of the universe.
