The Inertia

Salmon are one of the earth’s most incredible creatures. Each year, they travel thousands of miles, eventually returning to their original spawning grounds. They’re also incredibly important to a healthy ecosystem, feeding everything from bears to trees.

The Susitna, commonly known as “the Mount Everest of Rivers”, has a salmon run to end all salmon runs. In the short feature above, Ryan Peterson, with help from Susitna River Coalition and Patagonia, delves into the costs and benefits of a mega-dam proposed by the government.
