The Inertia

I’ve always known that Pharrell Williams was better than me. He’s a better singer. He has better taste in fashion. And he’s even better at wearing funny hats (something I take great pride in). But now Mr. Williams has outdone himself, going above and beyond his overall “betterness” than myself and crossed a line. Now it’s personal. I’ve just found out that Pharrell Williams is better than me at silly iPhone games and thus, saving the world.

The singer has partnered up with the clothing company G-Star Raw in an effort to rid our oceans of trash and plastic bottles with a new iPhone game called, “Battle for Big Blue.” Users play as a plastic-collecting octopus on a mission to clean the sea. You can play by yourself, with your friends, and even against Pharrell – who happens to be quite good.

In addition to the awareness-raising app, G-Star and Pharrell started a clothing line featuring denim made from recycled ocean plastics. That’s just their humble way of doing their part in mending this global problem. And it’s a serious mission, because as the app mentions, the oceans are filled with six times more plastic than marine life.

After completing just two levels of the game, Pharrell’s score was nearly double mine and he still retained all three of his extra lives while I had none. Perhaps if I put in more practice, I can one day beat the velvet-voiced master. But until that fateful day…DAMN YOU, PHARRELL!!!
