Water Bottle

“If there are 120,000 New Haven residents that are drinking tap water and that tap water is high quality then it should be good enough for our municipal employees.” – New Haven Alderman Justin Elicker

If that’s not good enough, Justin offers more simple, logical truths: “Frankly, it’s embarrassing that we use bottled water… as if our water wasn’t good enough.”

Huge kudos to Justin Elicker, but how did we ever get so lost that these statements are even newsworthy?

Here’s how. Every dollar we spend is a vote. We’ve voted a LOT for bottled water.

Bottled water is a $50,000,000,000 industry globally

The bottled water industry (and its long arms of influence) do not want people to stop drinking bottled water.

But how did we get this lost?

Is it as simple as “we were marketed to?”

Is it that we forgot the Hans Christian Anderson tale “The Emperor’s New Clothes?”

Kudos to New Haven for cutting its spending on such a superfluous luxury as bottled water.

Repeat after me, I’ll never use another water bottle.

More here and here.
