Happy Earth Day, friends! Today marks that day of the year where we think a little harder about our planet’s mysterious beauty, the abundant plants and creatures that make it so unique and special and ponder humanity’s impact on this giant spinning orb.
The latter there often has a tendency to get stuffy. Understandably so, that is. Those calculating volatile organic compound (VOCs) emissions, carbon footprints, or changing global public policy are climate heroes. But, occasionally it’s necessary to connect with the everyman. To remind humanity that the world is a strange place with weird animals like zebras and tigers and cows and oceans and forests. And, oh yeah, let’s protect them.
Enter: Lil Dicky, comedy rapper and arguably one of the least likely people to create a compelling song about the need to protect our planet.
The video above is called “Earth” and it features a who’s who of celebrities and musicians including Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Kevin Hart, Miley Cyrus, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Thank you to @lildickytweets and all the artists that came together to make this happen. Net profits from the song, video, and merchandise will go to many @dicapriofdn partners on the frontlines of implementing solutions to climate change. #WeLoveTheEarth https://t.co/3u8cyA6NPq pic.twitter.com/cpMeTB4Ziq

In the video description on YouTube, Lil Dicky implores listeners to get involved and head to welovetheearth.org to learn more about climate change. The site features the following three-minute explainer that’s not as flashy as the “Earth” music video, but is equally brilliant and, at times, comical. Learn more here.
