In response to the recent record freezing temperatures in San Diego, our partner, Ocean Minded, has organized a clothing drive in conjunction with the 17th Annual Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge this Saturday, January 26th at Bonita Cove on San Diego’s Mission Bay.
The recent cold front brought extreme low temperatures to San Diego County and has deeply impacted local shelters, such as The Alpha Project, a nonprofit human services organization that serves over 4,000 men, women, and children each day. In effort to help, Ocean Minded is encouraging the local community and those who plan to attend the Ocean Challenge, to clean out their closets of wearable sweaters, hoodies, jackets and/or blankets, as well as plastic sheeting, tarps and even heavy duty garbage bags, and bring them to the event. All donated items will be collected at the Ocean Minded tent between 7:00 am and 2:00 pm and handed over to The Alpha Project to be dispersed to those in need.
Donations can be made 24-hours a day at the city of San Diego’s cold weather shelter at 16th Street and Newton Avenue in Barrio Logan, for those who cannot make it out to the event.
