Now, we’re not saying you have actual physical custody on the weekends, but we’re also not not saying that. The World Wildlife Fund are the adoption service so to speak, and whale sharks are only one of the many different and equally awesome animals you can adopt. But we’re pumped on these big-mouthed buggers, so we’re focusing on them for the meantime. For $55, you get Plush 22″ stuffed animal (not a real animal), adoption certificate and species card, photo (!), gift bag, and optional gift bag. There are also $100 and $25 adoption kits, but we won’t ruin the surprise on what those entail.
Not sure exactly what whale sharks are? Trust none other than noted whale and shark expert Tara Reid:
“So I look up sharks on the Internet and I see whale sharks. And I’m like it must mean a whale and a shark had sex. And then I think, well how does a whale and shark have sex? … Because whales are mammals, and sharks are animals. They have nothing to do with each other. So basically, the dolphins have sex with each other, but the sharks don’t. So I thought, then how is it such a thing? But the difference is that a whale shark is the biggest shark in the ocean. He’s also scary, and then you have the great white, who’s also scary. There are over 400 kinds of sharks but the whale shark is kind of interesting because he’s so mean — he’s like a killer.”
Yep, that sounds about right. Though WWF has a rather different description:
Whale sharks can be found in all temperate and tropical oceans around the world, with the exception of the Mediterranean Sea. Measuring up to 45 feet in length, these giants subsist on a diet of krill, squid and small fish. It is thought that whale sharks may have a lifespan of 100 to 150 years. The whale shark is a filter feeder, one of only three species of shark that feed by sucking water through its mouth and expelling it through the gills, trapping millions of plankton. These gentle creatures are at risk from commercial fishing for food.

Anyway, I already love Sharkie! That’s what we’re naming our lil’ big guy! Thank you for the heads up, Supercompressor. While you’re reading this, head on over to SC and lend a hand in naming theirs.
