Digital Media Sales Representative, The Inertia

AllGear Digital seeks a Digital Media Sales Representative to support its owned-and-operated publications (i.e. GearJunkie.com, TheInertia.com, and more) and their related channels. This is a contract-to-hire position that will start with a monthly retainer + commission structure.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a client list of potential brand partners
  • Prospect for new clients & new verticals (i.e. near and non-endemic accounts)
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with key advertisers and media buying agencies
  • Own and drive full cycle sales: initial outreach to closing the deal and passing off to Project Management
  • Sell traditional and custom digital advertising (display media, content, video, podcast, giveaways, sponsorships, social media, e-news, live activations, etc.)
  • Utilize consultative sales methods: Converse with clients via email and phone to determine upcoming campaigns or product launches, KPIs, timing, and budget
  • Receive RFPs from media buying agencies and brand partners
  • Build, propose, and close integrated digital media campaigns across AllGear Digital publications
  • Generate direct sales revenue
  • Effectively organize, prioritize, and manage multiple advertising requests in a deadline-driven environment
  • Create (or aid in the creation of) any needed sales materials
  • Effectively prepare for, conceptualize and deliver online, phone, and in-person sales presentations
  • Travel to trade shows, events, and more to network with key industry contacts
  • Provide prompt email/phone follow up to inbound inquiries
  • Properly track all account activity in our CRM
  • Create efficiencies in the sales process
  • Provide excellent customer service and build strong account relationships
  • Forecast revenue from media campaigns
  • Report directly to the Sales Manager of AllGear Digital

Who You Are

  • A minimum of 2 years of related work experience, ideally in the digital media industry
  • Rolodex of brand partner & agency connections that could be leveraged for AllGear Digital
  • Candidates for the position should have a solid understanding of digital advertising and marketing, especially publisher-direct advertising
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • A keen ability to see opportunities, understands needs, create solutions, set proper expectations and close deals
  • Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to work across internal departments
  • Strong experience working with PowerPoint and Excel and is experienced using research and marketing to craft and deliver unique proposals/presentations
  • Experience with Salesforce/comparable CRM is a plus
  • Self-starter that is ambitious in nature, with an entrepreneurial approach

ASSOCIATE GEAR EDITOR

The Inertia is seeking a new Associate Gear Editor/writer to join the team to help build our growing gear operation. Individuals with experience professionally reviewing gear preferred. The role will require coordinating and executing a calendar of exhaustive gear reviews relevant to surf, ocean, and outdoor enthusiasts. Editor will be expected to conduct reviews individually while simultaneously managing  a network of contributors to hit deadlines for products relevant to surf, ocean, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Ideal candidates will possess the following characteristics:

• 2+ years of experience as an editor or professional writer. Candidates should have examples of recent written and published work.
• Candidates must have a strong knowledge and understanding of surf, ocean, and outdoor culture – past and present
• Highly motivated and able to work independently as well as with teams under tight deadlines.
• Working relationships with outdoor brands and talented writer network preferred
• Proficient in WordPress, Canva, and Photoshop.
• Highly detailed approach to assessing gear, analyzing, and communicating merits; strong writing voice commanding ability to speak authoritatively from personal experience and research about products. Ability to take high quality photos a plus.
• Excellent communication skills. No typos.

  • 1-5 years experience as an editor or writer at an online publication
  • Strong voice; The clearer your point of view, the more compelling.
  • Proficient using WordPress, Photoshop, Canva, and other essential publishing software
  • Familiar with surf and outdoor culture and able to ideate, write, and execute original features that are timely and relevant to our readers

EDITORIAL INTERN

The Inertia is seeking an Editorial Intern to share in editorial responsibilities. The position will involve writing, formatting, editing, and posting content to the site and editorial initiatives as well as participating in developing and executing the editorial calendar. The Editorial Intern is encouraged to contribute original content to the site. This is an unpaid internship, and must be eligible for school credit.

Ideal candidates will possess the following characteristics:

  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with emerging technology. Proficient in WordPress, HTML, Photoshop, and MailChimp and/or other e-newsletter delivery services.
  • Eligible for school credit and currently completing coursework at a four-year College or University in English, Journalism, Communications or a related field.
  • Experience working at school paper or as a journalist preferred.
  • Excellent written and communication skills. No typos.
  • Ability to be flexible, self-motivated, and work from home.
  • Ability to write professional-level stories, ready to publish on current events and breaking news on extremely short notice
  • A strong knowledge and interest in surf, mountain, and outdoor culture, the Internet, and new technology.

SOCIAL MEDIA EDITOR

The Inertia is seeking a Social Media Editor to develop The Inertia’s voice as an authority and innovator across all social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, Flipboard, Twitter, and beyond. The Social Media Editor should be able to deploy original content across all networks seven days a week and optimize the voicing to fit each platform while also planning larger initiatives to innovate and expand The Inertia’s reach across all channels. The role requires excellent organizational, written, and communication skills. Success in this role hinges on driving meaningful growth, engagement, and innovative, authority-commanding initiatives across all channels. The Social Media editor will also have the opportunity to contribute original content to the website regularly and handle the growth of our email and newsletter marketing distribution.

Ideal candidates will possess the following characteristics:

  • Should be highly active and familiar with best practices on Instagram, Facebook, Flipboard, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, Pinterest, Google Plus, and other emerging social platforms. Ideal candidates have managed and executed meaningful growth initiatives for a premium brand’s social platforms.
  • Excellent written and communication skills. No typos. Strong voice and command of language.
  • Data and analytics-minded; Able to analyze social activities and make optimizations based on performance.
