Where are they now exposés are typically reserved for one hit wonder musicians, and child stars. But in the age of Youtube, you can add the subjects of viral videos to the list. Fifteen years ago Micah Peasley gave an interview to Fox 11 about surf conditions, and solidified himself as the “Wapah” guy (or the “Get Pitted” guy if you prefer). Peasley later got a Tosh.0 web redemption, but since has remained out of the limelight.
Earlier this month, though, Fox 11 caught up with Peasley to see what he’s up to now and what he makes of his internet fame. As it happens, the interview was an intentional exaggeration, he said. Peasley knew when the cameras were rolling that he needed to give the people what they came for, and dammit he went for it. “What it was is I was seriously faking it,” Peasley told Fox 11.
But no self-respecting 15 minutes of fame story is complete without explaining how stars were able to capitalize on their moment in the spotlight, and Peasley’s story is no different. He and his wife own and operate Get Pitted Surf and Snow – giving surf and snowboard lessons.
