The concept of “being stoked,” however trite the expression has become, is one that is near and dear to surfers’ hearts. It’s not an easy feeling to articulate. It’s like trying to describe why I still watch Gossip Girl; I don’t know why. It just makes me happy.
Internet sensation Bear Vasquez (more commonly known as “The Double Rainbow Guy”) knows exactly what we’re talking about. Some people might think he’s a crazy, drugged-out hippie (in his interview with Jimmy Kimmel he maintains that he had not taken any drugs at the time, BUT does own a fully-legal medical marijuana prescription) who overreacted to a natural phenomenon (on home video), but I don’t think it’s that strange. He’s stoked. And better yet, we all got to share it with him. It’s kind of like when you wake up thinking you are late for work but realize you don’t have a job! So for all the cave dwellers out there, here’s Bear’s Double Rainbow video, in all its glory:
And although the clip has spawned many spin offs, I think I’ve grown to like The Double Rainbow Song more than the original video. It’s catchy as hell. Auto-tuned and all. Get on it. (So intense.)
To conclude the Double Rainbow Saga, Bear also went on Jimmy Kimmel, and seems like an awesome Teddy Bear of a man. Let’s all take a page from Bear’s book and embrace the stoke. Just maybe make it sound like less of an orgasm if you’re in school or, like, on a crowded bus…
