The Inertia

Save The Waves Film Festival has become a hallmark of the late fall’s best events in San Francisco and beyond. The film selection this year sees some of the best filmmakers sharing stories of surfing, our fragile environment and the exploration of both. I am particularly excited for a few key films that tell the stories about the places we work and the people we work with.

Kyle Thiermann and Surfing for Change’s latest follows the tale of the wave and watershed of San Miguel in Baja. As a project that Save The Waves is pushing forward with our partners, we are stoked to be able to share this project and inspire action to protect the place as the first state park in Baja California.

Save The Waves’ ambassador Ramon Navarro and his deep connection to his beloved Punta de Lobos is illustrated through short films by Rodrigo Farias Moreno and Chris Malloy. At the heart of both is the struggle to keep Lobos protected for the long-term. We’re proud to be engaged in this effort.

Filmmaker Sachi Cunningham and her latest work “MAR SEM FEM” follows Azorean surfers and STW ambassador João de Macedo through big wave surf exploration and ocean wilderness in the Azores Islands off the coast of Portugal.

These are just a taste of a few of the films we’ll present along with live music, great drinks, and good friends. Grab your tickets today and join us in San Diego at Bird’s Surf Shed on November 7. Visit www.savethewaves.org/filmfestival for more info.

The Save The Waves Film Festival will be in San Diego at Birds Surf Shed on 11/7, Brooklyn at Lightspace Studios on 11/14, and San Francisco at the Victoria Theater on 11/21.
