A lot of boardsports have crossover appeal. It’s not a hard and fast science, but enjoying one lends itself easily to appreciation for another. I’m not on most of those bandwagons myself, but I’m assuming I’m in the minority here because a lot of people have invented boards that try to combine two disciplines in one. There’s the snow skate, Razor’s new RipSurf, or their RipStick, to name a few. But those are all just novelty revisions of one type of board; nothing to look at for more than just a bout of random fun.
Colorado based startup Seasons isn’t trying to be in the novelty toy business though. They say they’ve made the first longboard that can also perform as a true snowboard. “Why only wheels?” is actually the question that sparked the company’s mission to create dual surface longboards. Their new line of longboards that launched on Kickstarter this week is aimed at that. Detach the wheels and you’re left with a board suited for snow, complete with metal edges and space to strap in some bindings on the Alpine model. The Explorer and Antelope models are shorter and without metal edges, made for backcountry cruising or freestyle. The boards range from about $120 to up to $235, which is right in the general price point for longboards anyway. Even if they don’t replace your snowboard set up performance wise, at the very least you’ll have a cruiser that you can goof off with in the snow from time to time.
