Samuel grew up on Fishers Island, a small island located off the eastern end of Long Island, New York. Fishers has a burgeoning surf community that has been flourishing in the last couple of years. It's a place where the norm is surfing alone, or with any friends you can convince to come with you. Samuel studied abroad for a semester in Australia to escape the frigid winter temperatures of the North East and enjoy the point breaks of the Gold Coast. After graduating from the University of Vermont, he moved down to Costa Rica to work in a hostel a college buddy’s family had just opened up. He worked as a surf instructor, bar tender, and front desk manager, while getting to enjoy the heavy beach break of Playa Hermosa every morning. When he decided it was time to return to the states, he and a friend decided to drive home in a 1976 Land rover, dubbed “Bessie”. Sam currently lives in Philipsburg, Montana, working at a nonprofit, and skiing and hiking on the weekends.
