Michele is an Environmental Social Science Research Fellow at the Australian Research Council's Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. She holds a PhD in Natural Resources and Environmental Management and a Graduate Certificate in Ocean Policy from the University of Hawaii. Michele has disciplinary expertise in sociology, economics, and social network science. Her research broadly focuses on human-nature interactions in marine systems and how they relate to the sustainable use and governance of marine resources. Michele often works with other social scientists, ecologists, biologists, mathematicians, policymakers, and conservation and development practitioners; and she has active field sites in Hawaii, Kenya, Papua New Guinea, and Australia.
