Growing up in South Florida, Martin began surfing by the age of 12, and as he got older, he spent a lot of time driving up the coast to find better surf. Florida can be quite flat for long periods of time so he travels to keep himself satisfied. Martin started to travel to a lot of the locations he dreamed of growing up. At some point, he started to get into photography and video as well, and he made a series of surf videos back in the VHS days that where sold globally.
