Koa was born on the island of O’ahu and raised on the tiny island of Lanai for the first few years of his life. It was on Lanai that he developed a strong connection to the ocean by camping and fishing every weekend with his family. Koa recently graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with an undergraduate degree in Environmental Management. He has since been working seasonally for the Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program with NOAA in the remote Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. During the off-season Koa spends his days shooting landscapes, portraits, and surfing. Through working with endangered species during his years as an undergrad, Koa has developed a passion for conserving Hawaii’s natural environment and has made it his goal to spread awareness about the deteriorating environment through his photography.
