Psychologist, writer, and surfer, Ken Cole was drawn to Tom's story by the silent courage and precise navigation Tom demonstrated throughout his life. Ken is also impressed by the way Tom revised our relationships with waves, water, and the natural world. Ken's reasons for creating this film are born out of his desire to honor the individual whose vision has changed his life and the lives of many others across the globe, both in and out of the water. In addition, Cole has taken an active role in promoting surf culture across the country. A member of the Black Surf Collective and serving as Vice-Chairman of the Surfrider Foundation - Wisconsin, Cole has played an ongoing role in promoting the culture of surfing as well as creating and organizing surf events ranging from Doo Dah Surf in Los Angeles, to the first ever Great Lakes Surf FIlm Festival, Surf @Water. These events embody Tom's message of promoting an appreciation and understanding of nature and the life changing impact it can have on all of us.
