Evelyn O’Doherty is a former school teacher gone rogue. Growing up in Westchester, New York, she spent her summers on the East End of Long Island between Amagansett and Montauk. After graduating from Boston University, she settled full time in the East End community. Evelyn taught in the public school systems on Long Island for 12-plus years as a middle and high school English Language Arts teacher, during which time she received her graduate degree in Educational Technology and learned to surf. The bug bit hard. After finding herself checking the wave forecast more often than her grade book, she gave up her teaching career to spend more time closely connected to the ocean. She’s never looked back.  Her love of the ocean, its people, and the environs has propelled Evelyn into a whole new career path as editor of Session magazine, a publication covering the watersports world.
Evelyn O’Doherty now has over a decade of experience in the watersports space. She’s traveled for many years with the APP World Tour, hosting live beach broadcasts, athlete interviews and writing daily recaps. She is an ISA-certified surf judge, Big Wave Risk Assessment Group (BWRAG) training graduate, and has raced competitively in stand-up paddling in Puerto Rico, across the U.S. and the Caribbean. She surfs in Montauk year-round and is involved with several local and national non-profits connected to preserving our ocean’s health and future.  Evelyn also hosts a podcast through Session magazine, called “On Water” where she interviews a wide array of athletes, entrepreneurs, scientists and artists about their connection to water.
