Born in St. Augustine, Florida, Dave Schauber moved to Santa Barbara, California in 1992. As a teen, he was a top amateur surfer in The E.S.A.'s North Florida district and his goal was to chase his dream of becoming a professional surfer but an early back injury forced him to stop competing. Soon after he picked up a 16 mm camera and has been creating ever since. Dave has worked as a contributing writer for Surfing Magazine and as a Competition Judge for The Association of Surfing Professionals WQS tour from 1998 to 2006. He later became a familiar face in the big wave scene as a senior judge for the Big Wave World Tour including such prestigious events as The Mavericks Big Wave Contest in Half Moon Bay, California, The Todos Santos Big Wave Event in Mexico, The Nelscott Reef Big Wave Invitational in Lincoln City, Oregon and The Quicksilver Ceremonial Big Wave Competition at Punta de Lobos in Pichelimu, Chile. Some of Dave's more recent cinematography work has appeared in the 2 latest Glas Surf Films "The Ripple Effect" and "On a Dime" as well as on the The Discovery Channel's Mega World Series. He can primarily be found producing local TV commercials as well as doing private shoots for regional surf companies and local businesses.
