Chris Dodds was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and came to the United States at a young age. As a baby on the beach, he was mesmerized by the style and speed of local surfers. Growing up landlocked in the Midwest, he first took up skating at 6, snowboarding at 9, and then learned to surf at 10 years old while visiting family in Rio. He has been standing sideways ever since.
