The Inertia

“It is falsely assumed that disease is a natural consequence of aging.”

For as far as modern medicine has come, at times, it almost seems like it’s working in reverse. While medicine is keeping people alive longer, these lives are riddled with disease and illness, especially in the later years. It seems too often people slow down as the years go by, and they accept the consequences of inactivity (obesity, diabetes, heart problems, etc.) as a natural step in life. Well, Charles Eugster is here to change the tone of the conversation. The 93-year-old (now 96) makes the case for elderly bodybuilding in this TED Talk. Eugster is breaking records, staying fit, and staying sharp all while pushing 100, and he is a true testament to the power of the human body. Listen below to Eugster’s take on why old age is the perfect excuse to be in the best shape of your life.
