Mammoth Mountain sent out a release yesterday after a number of storms blanketed the mountain in white, letting the general public know it has upped its opening date. Mammoth officials announced that the resort will now open Friday, October 29 for the 2020-2021 season.

The announcement comes just ahead of another series of storms starting this week forecasters are calling “atmospheric rivers” that could dump up to six feet in the high Sierra.

“The new snow from these storms will add to a solid early season base already in place on Broadway, Saddle Bowl and beyond,” read an email from the resort. “Mammoth will release more specifics early next week about terrain for the opener along with plans for celebrating Halloween weekend on the mountain.”

This is the tenth time in the mountain’s history that it will open in October. Mammoth says it’s received 17 inches already and mountain officials think this could be the snowiest October on record after the storms this week.
