The Inertia

Tucker Wooding is known for some incredible surf videography. He’s also got a pretty interesting story of his own. By working as a commercial salmon fisherman in Alaska during the summers, he’s able to spend the entire winter traveling the world, chasing swells. From his home base in San Francisco, he manages to be seemingly everywhere at once, from Nazaré to Pipeline (and of course Maverick’s, just down the road).

With his knack for always being at the right place at the right time, Wooding surely has an extensive video archive. Most recently, Wooding reached into that archive to re-edit footage of an epic day at Jaws, also known as Pe’ahi.

“Out of all the sessions I’ve filmed this one was probably my favorite,” said Wooding in the YouTube caption. “Perfect day at Jaws.”

The day in question was January 11, 2023. While Wooding previously posted a video of the session last year, this latest offering recuts and polishes the footage with a bit more cinematic flair. Who wouldn’t want to get another look at those expansive drone vistas, heart-wrenching slow motion drops, and azure barrels?

From the way he lovingly shoots the place, it’s no wonder that Wooding told us that he has a soft sport for Pe’ahi. “My favorite wave to shoot is definitely Jaws,” he explained. “I’d say it’s the best big wave in the world. Nazaré is fun, but it’s kind of chaotic and a weird monster. Maverick’s is special too, but I’d say Jaws is my favorite wave to shoot.”
