The Inertia

Quentin Turko surfs too well to be considered an everyman surfer, but his experience as a part-time QS competitor living in the Outer Banks is relatable in that his days are filled with one consistent pursuit: spend as much time in the ocean as possible.

“Life for me on the Outer Banks completely revolves around surfing when the waves are good and fishing when it’s flat,” he tells The Inertia. “I’m lucky to live in a place that has insane waves but with it being the East Coast it gets really hit or miss.”

So Turko drives. A lot. And often. He looks for waves where he can find them, he jumps on the road and heads to Jersey or wherever his instincts tell him to venture along the East Coast. He jumps on the occasional surf trip. And yes, whenever opportunity knocks, he throws on a jersey and tallies some QS points — four times in 2019, to be exact, in Barbados, Florida, Virginia Beach, and at home in North Carolina. It’s a true part-time schedule of dabbling in QS competition and an obvious full-time pursuit of barrels.

This is a highlight reel of Quentin’s 2019 wave count up and down the East Coast, a lot of waves at home, and a jaunt out to Central America, because every single one of us needs at least one bonafide surf trip under our belt each calendar year.
