The Inertia

Twin fins are fun. Gone are the days where a paper-thin standard thruster was the “cool” surfboard to ride. In the last few years, a resurgence of the everyday surfing person has occurred, and with it came a resurgence from the past. Twin fins have been around for a long time — Bob Simmons used them in his planing hulls, but when Mark Richards began dominating the pro circuit in the late seventies and early eighties, they were at the top of the pile when it came to performance surfing.

Then, of course, Simon Anderson came along with the thruster and changed the direction of surfboard fins, but now twins are well and truly back. Which is why the Hayden team decided to take one of the world’s most popular surfboards, the Hypto Krypto, and turn it into a twin.

It’s a performance keel design that has a bit of a tighter swallow tail. The fins are set farther back, and it rides similarly to the regular Hypto. The wide point is set a little higher up with more volume under the chest, and the concave is developed in such a way that it creates a board that’s incredibly smooth and fast. Watch above as a whole bunch of people far better than average surf the hell out of the Hypto Krypto Twin.
