Surfing can be a frustrating hobby, especially in the age of the internet.Every perfect swell from every perfect lineup on the planet is streamed directly into that little plastic box you spend too much time staring into. Forecasts let us know what we’re going to be missing out on, social media let us know what we’re currently missing out on, and round up clips let us know exactly how much we missed out on. It’s a horrible time to be a surfer. It’s also a wonderful time… if you can afford to travel constantly. Enter Surf Air.
The travel company offers a pretty unique experience to those with deep pockets: unlimited flights. Initially, it was only in California, but they’ve since expanded into Europe. The whole thing is a rich surfer’s dream: see a swell, book a flight, show up to the airport a mere 15 minutes before the flight, and according to the website, “take off in the comfort of custom-designed executive aircraft.” Shit don’t come cheap, though: you’ll be forking out a mere $2,700 every month.
Like I said before, they’re not catering to surfers, because most of us are bums that scratch together bottle money for an annual pilgrimage somewhere amazing. The European route that’s kicking off this coming October has stops in London, Cannes, Geneva, and Zurich, but by next year, they’re planning on ramping it up to Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam, and Barcelona. There are a few waves around there, if you want to hop a train for a couple of hours.
As far as the California service, flights end up in LA, San Francisco, Reno, Palm Springs, and Napa. That means if you live in LA and feel like surfing OB at a moment’s notice, you’re set… as long as you’re loaded.
