The Inertia

Ever since its inception, Rip Curl has represented a way of life surrounded by travel and adventure. As much more than just a slogan, “The Search” became the brand’s corporate identity and rallying cry. They took their riders to far-flung locations in pursuit of adventure and untouched waves. And they even brought the world’s best surfers to remote stretches of coastline to compete with World Tour events like 2006’s Rip Curl Pro: Somewhere in Mexico. But in recent years, “The Search” has somewhat fizzled away for Rip Curl, at least in practice.

In an attempt to reignite the motto and driving force, the company has launched a new video series in conjunction with the upcoming Rip Curl Moche Pro Portugal. Throughout November, a new weekly addition to the series called “Search Stories” will be released. And then on December 1, Rip Curl will be releasing a full-length production of the adventures along with an all encompassing website.

Judging by the trailer, which dropped this week, the series will follow Rip Curl team riders around the globe at obscure surf destinations. Rip Curl’s eclectic team will make for a nice mix of talent on the adventures. They have free-surfers like Mason Ho and Dillon Perillo who can hop on a plane at any moments notice. And from the looks of it, even WSL title contenders like Mick Fanning, Wilko, Gabriel Medina, and Owen Wright will be taking time out of their busy schedules to search for faraway waves. It’ll definitely be a nice change to see those guys out of a jersey and into some hidden gems.
