The Inertia

The team at the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries has seen a lot of great whites. They’re always out, looking for the big apex predator, attempting to film and identify them using GoPros. But something tells us they don’t really intend to have one of their own play the role of live bait. Dr. Greg Skomal is the man out on the metal observation plank holding the camera when a gigantic great white breaches and looks as though it’s trying to swallow Skomal whole. The team regularly roams the Cape Cod region of the Atlantic observing the big, ocean-born predators.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy has been funding a population study this summer, according to the agency. Here’s how that study is supposed to look:
