The Inertia

The idea of eschewing rent, responsibility, and regular access to a toilet and shower to live in a car – aka “Van Life” – has enjoyed its moment in the sun among young adults for the better part of the last decade. Either because they’re sick of paying rent, can’t afford a home, want to have the freedom to travel on a whim, or some combination thereof, millennials the world over continue to be attracted to the lifestyle now known as Van Life.

Johnny is one such person. An electrician by trade, the man decided that during the weeks of time off he had between jobs, he wanted to have the freedom to travel around New Zealand or drop some cash on a far-flung place to chase waves. The result is Johnny moved into–and tricked out–a beautiful van to meet his needs, and can now drive where it’s pumping at the drop of a hat.
