You break yourself off. You get back up. You go at it harder than before. That’s pretty much been Mark McMorris’ MO this year after he broke his femur at Air and Style LA last winter. And his comeback form serious injury was completed yesterday as the Canadian won his first major North American event at the Dew Tour in Breckenridge, Colorado.
The Tour re-figured its slopestyle comp this year, separating jump and rail sections into individual competitions where riders were awarded points for each comp. McMorris won them both, stomping a huge frontside triple cork on the jump section. The trick names on the rail section are too ridiculous to list, but know this: according to the Dew Tour recap, McMorris looked rough on his first two attempts but was clutch on his final run to win the thing. “Doing that last (rail) run under pressure is just one of those things that really bums me out,” he said. “But honestly, it makes me ride better. I just want it so, so much. You don’t want it to have to come together on the last run, but I have been super blessed to have a lot of success under pressure.”
Amen. Dude has the eye of the tiger. Big win for McMorris, and pretty much the final step in his climb back from injury. Max Parrot and Sebastien Toutant finished two-three, respectively.
