“I don’t feel the cold, I feel the power. I don’t feel the pain because I am stronger than the pain.”
Let’s face it: most of us are total babies about the cold. As soon as the water drops below 65 F, at least here in Southern California, people start breaking out full suits, and anything below 60 F, you’ll start to see hood, booties, the works. We don’t like the cold, and we avoid it at all costs.
Well forget cold, Wim Hof is taking on freezing. Just degrees above freezing, actually. Hof is a daredevil of sorts that has trained his body to be able to survive in extreme temperatures. While most people would die, likely of a heart attack, within the first minute of being submerged in freezing water, Hof can endure 15-minute swims. He has trained his nervous system to stay calm under severe shock, and he has trained his body to somehow maintain enough heat to survive.
It’s simply amazing what the body can do. Watch below to see how Hof takes on a casual swim in a glacial lake.
