The Inertia

A few days ago, something terrifying happened in the San Diego city of Encinitas. While a 15-year-old girl was waxing her surfboard in her driveway, two men attempted to kidnap her. Now, a few days later, two suspects have been arrested.

According to reports, while the girl was in the driveway, one man approached her from behind, pinned her down, and attempted to drag her back to a blue Toyota Tacoma. Another man waited behind the wheel of the vehicle. The girl, who remains unnamed, was able to fight off her attacker and escape into the nearby house. The two men fled the scene, but the truck was caught on camera and eventually led to the arrests of Jeremiah Owens, 28, and Christopher White, 27.

After the attack, the neighborhood was determined to capture the men. “The whole surfing community is coming together to catch the guys,” August Neumey told NBC San Diego. “All the surf dads are posting pictures with the sketch of the guy.” Police quickly released a sketch of the driver.

According to NBC San Diego, Christopher White, the man in the police sketch, waited behind the wheel of the truck while Jeremiah Owens attempted to drag the girl to the truck. They are roommates at the Villa La Paz apartments on North Broadway in Escondido, and neighbors who knew the men are surprised, telling news outlets that the men had seemed friendly.

White and Owens have been booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of kidnapping with the intent to commit rape, false imprisonment, assault with the intent to commit rape and conspiracy.
