Older brothers are funny, aren’t they? Full of love and affection at times, protectors at others, and absolute torturers when the mood hits. Mine used to force me to watch Unsolved Mysteries, a show that terrified me into hysterics, as a small form of that torture. And John John is an older brother to Nathan Florence, a man who can endure a hell of a beat down. The proof is in the look on his face as he watches Nate from the back of an extraordinarily thick sandbar wave.
It’s all in good fun, of course. The video, called Someone Has to Go and released by John John, basically shows an almost-rideable wave with a handful of surfers including Barron Mamiya, Noah Beschen, Makana Pang, and Zeke Lau, attempting to surf it. Sure, a few are makes, but most aren’t. And I’ll bet it’s hilarious sessions like this one that make them feel like kids again.
