Three days weekend = cause to lean back.

Three days weekend = cause to lean back.

Three day weekends are awesome. Everyone’s just a little more relaxed, and not only for that third day. The two days preceding that glorious free day has an aura of excitement – just knowing there’s one more than usual does a lot for a person. But three days isn’t quite enough time to actually go somewhere for a vacation, is it? That’s why finding somewhere close to home that feels like a vacation is so important for those fantastic three-day weekends.

Enter Memorial Day. Here in the U.S., we honor those fallen soldiers that died while in military service by taking a day off to enjoy the freedoms they fought to protect. And living on the coast, those freedoms are just a little more fun. We found a little piece of Mexico right here in the good ol’ U.S of A.

Even in Los Angeles, home to upwards of ten million people, there are pockets of emptiness, surrounded by nothing but cliffs, sand, ocean, and if you’re lucky, waves. You just have to look for it…

Ever optimistic.

Ever optimistic.

So after sneaking a grip of camping gear down to one of the most beautiful hidden beaches in California, we surfed our faces off on fun, fast, waist high waves with three other friendly faces until it was too dark to see. Thoroughly salted and sunburned, we pitched a tent in the sand, broke open our supply bag, which included all the necessary equipment: hotdogs, salsa, tortilla chips, beer, and of course, pre-made Cayman Jack margaritas. There aren’t a whole lot of things that go together better than margaritas and campfires. Something about wood smoke and tequila, I think. We laid in the sand, with California’s expansive sky above us, drinking, laughing, and poking at a tiny fire until the wee hours, then passed out happy while the ocean threw dark waves onto the sand a few feet away. It was a pretty good way to spend an evening.

Just the essentials.

Just the essentials.

So here’s a challenge to all of you. Find the beauty of your home again. Sometimes, after living somewhere for a while, the reason you live there can get lost in the business of life. Spend a night unplugged with your feet up, enjoying whatever it is you like to enjoy. You don’t need to go somewhere to take a vacation. You just need to do what you’d do on a vacation… and you can do that pretty much anywhere.

You don't need to go somewhere to take a vacation. You just need to do what you'd do on a vacation... and you can do that pretty much anywhere.
