“You my friends are following in the very steps of history, something beyond the power of words to describe. Human beings simply are not built to function at the cruising altitude of a 747, our bodies will be literally dying. Everest is another beast altogether.”
Yet time and time again we stare the beast down and conquer these physical and mental limits alike.
We were not ready for that. The big-budget bang is enough to knock you out of your chair. But coupled with the string of recent tragedies to befall the mountain and surrounding communities? Overwhelming, and emotionally so.
Particularly this view…
The film is based on the disastrous 1996 expedition that killed eight climbers, which was the then single deadliest event int he mountain’s history — the Deadliest Day Ever. Jon Krakauer wrote about this tragedy in his acclaimed book Into Thin Air.
The movie is scheduled for release this coming September 18. We’re glad to see that the film and studio behind it are supporting the ongoing relief efforts in Nepal in multiple capacities, including donating themselves while encouraging viewers to do the same.
Want more? How about the IMAX trailer?
Anyway, we at The Inertia Mountain await the film with heavy heart.
…
Update: Since the initial pubishing of this post, the author embedded the IMAX trailer, which only adds to the justification for his use of hyperbole.
