“Man’s best friend” is an understatement if I’ve ever heard one. This is the sort of video edit that makes your heart well up with that raw kind of love, the kind of love you shared with your childhood pet. There weren’t words to explain how much you two meant to each other, but there didn’t need to be either — you spoke with a different type of common language.
Tinkerbell was my best friend’s name, from my days kicking around pre-school to my senior year of high school, when she collapsed in our backyard and didn’t get back up. She practically raised me, and in many ways her passing signified the end of my childhood. I was going to college, and there wouldn’t be any more Sunday morning walks, or Tuesday evenings throwing the ball around after practice. Thereby It was fitting, for her to be running around with a reckless abandon until her very last breath. It was heartbreaking to say the least, but she was nearly 16 or 17, and the memories I had — from sleeping as a kid on her warm tummy as she lie unmoving for hours to playing “high adventure” in the furthest reaches of our house’s upstairs or basement — were and continue to be grand. When we played, there was nothing but pure, unadulterated joy between us.

Conga is an energetic dog that leads skier Santiago Guzman up, down, and through the snow-capped peaks overlooking Bariloche, Argentina. In the middle of a windswept expanse of frigid and occasionally dangerous conditions, she brings the same warmth to her and Santiago’s spirited pursuit that the sun brings each morning. The same warmth Tinkerbell brought each day she was alive, and even today in moments of reflection.
Everything about this is so awesome.
